About 4 millimetres of rain fell at Canberra Airport between 3.11 and 3.30am on Wednesday, according to Bureau of Meteorology data.
The capital has received a total of 7.6 millimetres of rain since 9am on Tuesday - more than half the total amount delivered during October, traditionally the territory's wettest month.
The bureau is forecasting showers in the morning and early afternoon on Wednesday, with predictions up to 25 millimetres of rain will hit the capital.
If the forecast eventuates, it would be the biggest single day downpour since September 7 delivered 24.6 millimetres.
Overnight rain has caused disruptions for motorists heading to Gunghalin, with police forced to temporarily close the northbound lane of Horse Park Drive, near the Federal Highway, due to flooding.
A maximum of 0.2 millimetres of rain is predicted for Thursday, with the rest of the week expected to remain dry.
Canberra receives an average of 63 millimetres of rain during November.
February has been the only month in 2018 to deliver above average rain, as the territory, and large parts of eastern Australia, struggle through drought conditions.
