However, ACT Policing handed out 214 fines and 98 cautions as they targeted dangerous drivers during a joint operation with NSW Police over the Community Day and Labour Day long weekends.

Twenty-five drivers were caught drink driving from 4121 roadside breath testsduring an eight-day period, covering the first week of holidays.

Police also carried out 50 roadside drug tests on drivers; 14returned results which were initially positive and will be sent for laboratory tests.

Traffic Operations acting Superintendent Rod Anderson said it was fortunate there were no serious or fatal crashes given it was traditionally a busy time on the region's roads.

"Road safety is everyone's responsibility and the majority of motorists clearly understand that message.

"It's unfortunate for all road users that there are some who continue to take risks on our roads," acting Superintendent Anderson said.

Among those fined was a Downer woman, 23, who was caught driving 113km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Barton Highway at Nicholls on Monday afternoon.

She was fined $64 and gained eight demerit points.

The ACT road toll for 2014 sits at nine, two more than last year's total.
