Last year, Canberrans made about 123,368 land title searchers.

Access Canberra’s acting chief operating officer Alison Purvis said the new ACT Land Information System had modernised land searches so buyers and sellers of property or their solicitors and conveyancers were able to complete searches online rather than emailing request or attending a shopfront.

“Land title information from the late 1980s onwards is available for immediate download once purchased using a credit or debit card while earlier land title information will be sent electronically within 24 hours of an online request being made," Ms Purvis said.

Ms Purvis said the new land titles system allowed users to search by street address. Only parcel number and volume folio number searches were possible in the previous system. She said users now had the choice of using three different search fields.

Searches could be done on mobile phones and tablets. All information purchased is given as a PDF or by email.

Mr Purvis said there was no fee increase to customers using the new land titles system. A fee of either $22 or $29 applies to land title searches.

“The new land titles register is another example of Access Canberra improving services and making it easier for businesses and the community to work with government and transact easily and quickly online,” she said.
