While companies around the world took the opportunity to get goofy with their content on April 1, Pact Beer Co. announced they would be "tapping out" of their business and taking a break.

The comments section was filled with exactly what you'd expect. "Please tell me you are joking"; "Probably should have announced this not on April fools day...."; and "This was an interesting April Fools joke."

Alas, we weren't being fooled.

In the post, Pact thanked local businesses including Plonk, Ainslie IGA, and Cook the Friendly Grocer who had supported the brand since three friends started the company in 2015.

One of the three friends is Tim Osborne, Pact's chief keg counter.

"We've made the decision to step back. It's been fun. We do lots of other things, and Pact is an extremely demanding beast," Osbourne said.

"Taking it to the next level would require a giant push. So we just need to step back and see what's feasible."

Osbourne and co-founder Kevin Hingston hope that this break - which could "be for a few years, or forever" - will allow them to strike a better work-life balance.

"Kevin and I, when we do something, we like to do it really well. And we'd like to have a good work-life balance.

"We'd like more family time, more time for personal discovery, to surf, mountain bike, and just enjoy holidays. For the past few years, I've taken my laptop on every trip."

Osbourne regards winning The Australian Gypsy Brewer Award at the 2017 Australian International Beer Awards as one of their greatest achievements over the past four years.

"That level of knowing that your work is recognised by blindfolded judges is phenomenal. We had no idea we were at that level.

"I think Kevin still cuddles that trophy at night."

Awards aside, the company has brewed 40 of their own seasonal beers. Some of which are rather unique.

Osbourne fondly recalls the "bizarre salty beer" they made from $1000 worth of seaweed and the 'Hello. I'm Tracy Grimshaw, this is A Currant Affair' beer, which was even shared with Grimshaw's production team.

Their signature brews, the crisp and citrusy L Yeah,  the 100 Acres IPA, gold medallist at the Australian International Beer Awards, Brickworks Brown Ale, have been sipped throughout the bush capital and beyond.

According to Pact, the last of these beers are currently selling out.

"Some beers are already sold out, but most of our retail partners are still stocking Pact, including our commemorative last ever batch of Mount Tennent Pale Ale – for this batch we dialled back the blood and sweat but went crazy with the tears," Pact said in a statement on Facebook.
