Josh, 19, and Stephanie Torley, 13, took home the gold in the 10km men's and women's events, coming in at 31 minutes, 21 seconds and 36 mins 57 seconds respectively.

For the pair, running is all part of the family, with the brother and sister coming in ahead of dad Paul, who Josh said is both the siblings' coach at the Distance Running Academy.

Josh said while it wasn't a personal best this time, he enjoyed the run, while both nominated the hills along the course as the key challenges.

Stephanie, who is completing Year 7 at primary school, said she would like to eventually take her running as far as the Olympics.

They were among about 4000 runners registered in in this year's fun run, which included a 10km run, 5km fun run, 5km Elite Wheelchair event and, for the first time, a 5km Paw Parade route with their four-legged best friends and a 1km event for little athletes and their families.

Stephanie was followed by Chloe Bateup, Megan Towill, Amy Lam and Fleur Flanery, while the rest of the top five for men were Alan Craigie, Daniel Green, Shaun Creighton and Jono Windsor, most of whom are ACT residents.

Florey resident Yosef Gemechu took out the men's 5km run and Melba's Melinda Witchard took home the top spot in the women's 5km run, both followed respectively by Luke Simson and Sean Hancock in the men's and Capella Maguire and Kim Wilmshurst in the women's.

Both Yosef and Melinda came in over 1.20 minutes ahead of the next runner, with times of 14.19 and 17.04, respectively.

Yosef, a university student, said it was his third major 5km run, and he found it a lot tougher than he thought it would be, but he pushed himself to see what he was capable of, making a personal best sub-15 minute run.

Melinda said she loved the atmosphere this year, particularly with the Paw Parade, and maybe next year she might convince somebody to run with her long-haired chihuahua cross miniature poodle, George, while she runs again in the main race.

Runner Chris Allison and his short-haired border collie Brumby won the 5km Paw Parade, against a field of about 100 entrants in that run, featuring dogs ranging from bulldogs to daschunds.

Chris said Brumby was the fitter of the two, and she practically dragged him to the finish line, but she found running in a straight line a bit boring and would prefer to be zig-zagging all over the place.

Weetangera's Isla Murphy won the female 1km race at 3.36 mins, while Bruce's Joe Whithear won the 1km men's race bang on 3 minutes, both followed by Troy Harriden and Finn Duncanson in the men's and Rachel Giason and Lily Christian in the women's.

This year the event has partnered with the Heart Foundation and participants are encouraged to raise funds for the charity.
