ACT Fire and Rescue crews attended the Bucknel Circuit home about 9.40am, where firefighters conducted a search of the property.
The Australian Federal Police's Bomb Response and the Fire and Rescue HAZMAT cordoned off the area as a precauation, police said in a statement.
It is not known whether the house was occupied when the fire started, or whether any persons were injured in the blaze.
The house did not appear damaged from the outside, however more than a dozen firefighters were seen inspecting the property's interior throughout the morning.
At the request of fire crews, police established an exclusion zone around the home for public safety seasons. Police detectives arrived at the scene about 11.45am.
Authorities would not explain what those public safety reasons were when asked by The Canberra Times.
The scene was declared safe about 2pm and handed to ACT Policing, which began investigating the blaze. Police remained on scene on Friday afternoon.
People with information about the fire were asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference number 6354044.
