Craig Paul Meyboom, 43, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a charge of committing an act of indecency in the presence of a child aged under 16.

He did not enter a plea, did not apply for bail, and no further information was presented in court.

The defendant was listed to reappear before the court next month.

An ACT Policing press release, issued after the court appearance, said officers responded to an alleged indecent exposure in Gordon on Tuesday morning.

Police said the girl had been walking to school when a man allegedly approached and spoke to her before exposing himself.

She ran away and told teachers at the school of the alleged incident.

Police were contacted and Mr Meyboom was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

ACT Policing, earlier this month, launched Taskforce Tydeus in response to reports of 18 unrelated child approaches since February, 2018.

Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said the information provided by the student in this instance had been invaluable.

“The information that was quickly provided by the victim and another witness gave our investigators a great starting point to identify and locate this man,” Detective Superintendent Moller said.

“ACT Policing’s Taskforce Tydeus will continue to use all available resources to pursue reports of child approaches.

“We are also asking for any other witnesses to the incident to contact police.”

He said ACT Policing took all reports seriously and examined all available information in order to identify suspects.

Detective Superintendent Moller said police were reviewing all reports of child approaches received since February and are asking anyone with information to email Op-Tydeus@afp.gov.au.
