Two of the seats up for grabs across the ACT border are Goulburn and Monaro, the former generally regarded as a safe Liberal seat and the other considered a bellwether; whoever takes it, tends to take parliament.

Monaro's incumbent is Nationals MP and NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro, who is fighting for his third term against multiple parties, including Country Labor's Bryce Wilson.

But in the Tourist Hotel on Queanbeyan's Monaro Street, James Moffat and Chris "Sharky" Heap are sceptical of what anyone will bring to the border town.

"All the money's in Sydney," Mr Moffat said.

"The rest of us don't get a look in."

Mr Moffat said with the talk on how immigrants were supposedly bogging down Sydney's infrastructure, if the major parties invested in serious infrastructure outside of Sydney, people would flock to the country.

Mr Heap just sees it as "the same bullshit" and said the biggest issues for him were a lack of affordable housing and a lack of staff at Queanbeyan Hospital.

At Revolution CD, Canberra man and owner Glen Stewart said while he doesn't get to vote on Saturday, Labor's proposed changes to payroll tax might hurt his one NSW shop.

But he said while he liked Queanbeyan, the town had been "dead for 10 years".

Local hairdresser Maddie Corbin said she would just look "to wing it" on election day.

"I don't pay that much attention," Ms Corbin said.

"It doesn't really matter."

When asked what needed fixing around Queanbeyan she pointed to the lack of local schools, a lack of parking on the main drag, Monaro Street and the empty shopfronts.

"They need to do something about that," she said.

She said more needed to be done to attract shoppers and stop them from driving through to Canberra.

While there had been recent changes to Monaro Street, including planter boxes, Ms Corbin said nobody cared.

Ms Corbin said Mr Barilaro seems nice enough - she had seen him on TV and posters across town - but hadn't heard anything about his Labor opponent, Mr Wilson.

Mr Barilaro said he was feeling good about Saturday.

"We never take anything for granted in Monaro and my team and I will be working hard right until polls close," he said.

Mr Wilson, handing out how-to-vote cards on Crawford Street said he believed he'd run Labor's biggest campaign in Monaro.

"We'll see where it goes,"  he said.

"We've put everything in."

Over in Goulburn, Liberal candidate Wendy Tuckerman is hoping to inherit the seat from Pru Goward, who will be retired as of Saturday.

"I think it's going to be very close," Ms Tuckerman said.

She said whatever happens on Saturday, she's looking forward to spending some downtime with her family on Sunday.

Labor's candidate for Goulburn, Ursula Stephens, said she'll be looking to celebrate a few family birthdays on Sunday but otherwise is ready for Saturday night.

"I'm all fired up and ready to go," she said.

"Neither party will take this seat for granted again."
