Fire crews on scene as smoke billows from Rydges airport hotel

It was a case of all smoke and no fire at the Rydges Hotel near Sydney Airport on Thursday afternoon, as fire crews were called to a suspected blaze.

Four crews arrived at the scene around 1.30pm on Thursday in response to reports of smoke pouring out of hotel, according to a spokesperson for Fire & Rescue NSW.

They arrived to find smoke issuing from a diesel generator on the eighth floor, but there wasn’t actually a fire.

Crews did a 360-degree check of the building and there were some evacuations to ensure the area was clear had there been a fire, but the building was given the all-clear by 2.25pm.
