From Monday, there will be no direct pedestrian access with a partial closure of the rail tunnel that connects Central Station to the parkland

A statement from Brisbane City Council said access to the rail platforms from the tunnel would be maintained from Wickham Terrace and via the stairs that connect the rail tunnel and Ann Street.

“Signage will be in place to help pedestrians navigate the temporary closures,” the council said.

“The memorial galleries will also be closed during the project.”

The Anzac Square restoration work will include a new entrance more grass and seating.

Several aged and unhealthy trees will also be replaced and leopard trees removed.

Mature pine trees will be planted and planters with palm trees will be installed to mark the Adelaide Street entrace.

Anzac Park opened in the 1930s and was paid for by individual donations from the public.

Any pedestrians requiring wheelchair access to Central Station will be able to use the elevated walkway at Anzac Arcade, via Post Office Square, or use the ramp located at the corner of Edward and Ann streets.

The council said every effort would be made to minimise disruption to the local community during the project.

Construction will be done between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday with some works on Sunday from 8am to 5pm.

To complete restoration and enhancement works at Anzac Square is expected to be completed ahead of Remembrance Day on Sunday, November 11.
