She claimed the letter from the Brisbane Archdiocese contained information and content that could “push vulnerable women to end their life”.

Earlier this week, Brisbane Catholic Archbishop Mark Coleridge sent an email to parents across 141 Catholic schools, claiming the state government’s draft bill allows “abortion until the day that a baby is born”.

Under the proposed new laws, women can ask to terminate pregnancies up to 22 weeks on demand.

After 22 weeks, at least two doctors must agree the termination is appropriate "in all the circumstances" including medical, physical, psychological and social, for it to go ahead.

Organisers of a pro-life march in Brisbane on Saturday expect 4000 people to join their rally.

"Safe zones" of 150 metres would also be put in place around clinics to stop women, their loved ones and staff from being harassed.

Labor MPs will be allowed a conscience vote on the emotive issue. The Liberal National Party opposition says it will wait to see the legislation before deciding whether its MPs will be free to vote with their conscience.

The bill is expected to be debated and passed before the end of the year.

The Brisbane mother-of-one, who requested anonymity, said as a practising Catholic who recently underwent a termination, the church had “overstepped its bounds.”

“Even though I was born and raised a Catholic, my parents taught me science, and they taught me to question things,” she said.

“They taught me that our faith was about being good, but it wasn’t about being close-minded.

“We had a really healthy balance and that’s what I’m trying to teach my daughter.

“I want her to grow up in the faith because it’s wonderful. It taught me a lot and it made me the person I am today and I don’t regret a moment of it.

“But life is not black and white and different rules apply now.”

The email distributed by the archdiocese contains a link to a video by the Archbishop in which he says:

“The Catholic Church ... is often slammed by people who say how dare we speak about abortion when we’ve done so many things wrong with child sexual abuse.

“But if there is one thing the church has learned at great cost in recent years it’s the need to protect the vulnerable at every point of the journey and the journey begins in the womb.

“I’ve come to see that there’s a link between abortion and child abuse. If we choose to defend the unborn then we have to be no less committed to defending the young and the vulnerable in every way.

“That’s true not just of the church but of the state as well which is why I ask each individual member of parliament to see beyond worn out ideologies and tricky language as you consider a vote which matters more than most do.”

The woman, who had a termination in April, said she was “hurt and outraged” by the content of the church's newsletter.

“I think it’s unacceptable. [They] can’t be sending things like this out,” she said.

“It’s so insensitive. It’s on a par with heckling a woman outside a clinic. That’s the feeling I got.

“I felt like I was being reprimanded and judged, and that what I did was wrong.”

The woman opted for a medical abortion which she says went horribly wrong and lingered on for 12 weeks after initially taking the pills.

“I spent the Easter weekend haemorrhaging at my parents’ place, crying. It was quite horrible,” she said.

“For the next 12 weeks, I had continuous bleeding, and then had an infection and required a D&C; procedure. I was on IV treatment for four days in hospital. It was just a really horrendous time.

“I shouldn’t be made to feel guilty for my life choices. When I saw this email it made me feel ill.

“I was at peace with my decision. But the email was just confronting, it brought everything back.

“For someone who might not be as strong emotionally, it could have caused them real problems. And for some people who have made that decision, or who are thinking of making that decision, they could end their life.

“No-one should feel that judged.”

In a statement, Archbishop Mark Coleridge said the email was sent to the Catholic community as a means to open discussion about the proposed abortion laws.

“I’ve been heartened with the support we’ve received for our email,” he said.

“Inevitably we’ve had criticism, but the very clear response from Queenslanders has been genuine concern at these proposed abortion laws.

“Our email included a link to the Queensland Law Reform Commission report and to the draft legislation.

“It’s important that Queenslanders have access to this information. Some of the responses to our email have been from people grateful that they have received an easy link to read legislation that is hard to find for some.

“The State Government has set up a so-called “Fact Checker” website. However there is no link on this website to the Law Reform Commission report or even to the draft legislation. Instead, the Government has reduced the 324-page report to two pages.”

The Archbishop claimed the government’s website does not clarify who is checking these facts and uses “tricky language.”

“Almost 90 per cent of people who have responded to our email say they don’t support the proposed laws,” he said.

“Many of those people believe that there is a lack of rigour around the proposed laws for termination of babies after 22 weeks' gestation. They are particularly concerned about the termination of babies close to full-term.

“There are fewer than 160 words in the legislation that cover the circumstances in which a baby can be terminated after 22 weeks. Yet there are almost 400 words that cover so-called 'Safe Access Zones'.

“Under the proposed law, doctors can approve a termination up until birth for several reasons including 'social circumstances'. That’s written in the proposed legislation. Doctors are also asked to consider 'future psychological circumstances'.

“I have the utmost respect for doctors but are they experts in areas like social and psychological assessment when we’re talking about the life of a woman and the life of a baby that may be full-term?" the Archbishop said.

"In this debate, both lives matter.”

Health Minister Steven Miles said he wanted to see a “respectful debate, informed by facts.”

“The Attorney-General and I personally briefed church leaders some weeks ago. We addressed these misleading claims then,” Mr Miles said.

“This is exactly why Queensland Health has launched a fact-checker website.

“I have personally submitted the Archbishop’s email and video address to the website so every Queenslander can learn the truth.

“All Queenslanders and Members of Parliament should visit the fact-checking website and get the correct information from verified health professionals."
