The hotel boom, in part sparked by Brisbane City Council’s hotel incentive delivering infrastructure reductions for four and five-star hotel developers, has delivered 24 new hotels since 2014.

The latest hotel to add rooms to the city’s supply is The Calile Hotel on James Street in Fortitude Valley.

The Calile Hotel officially opened on Thursday and the four-star hotel has 175 rooms a central pool surrounded by cabanas and sun lounges as well as a restaurant, cocktail bar and day spa.

Lord mayor Graham Quirk said there was an occupancy rate average in Brisbane of about 76 per cent, compared to 71 per cent nationally.

“Despite the offering that is out there, the fresh new significant number of new hotels, the occupancy rate levels have stayed up,” he said.

The Malouf family decided in 2014 to go ahead and build the $100 million The Calile Hotel.

Catherine Malouf said the family bought the property in 2002 and opened the James Street Market but always had plans for the area.

“We’ve had an incredible response so far ... I’ve had a lot of enquiries and people booking without even seeing it finished,” she said.

Ms Malouf said the hotel’s function areas were booked out every Saturday night until March 2019.

“I think the rooms are actually not far behind," she said.

The hotel has a staggered opening and still has several levels to unveil.

The Westin Hotel, Brisbane City, with 286 rooms, is due to open in November and the 164-room Howard Smith Wharves Art Series Hotel will open in late 2018.
