The new kiosk will be developed by Multiplex in partnership with Brisbane City Council as part of the company's social action plan, with construction to start on Monday.

Council's Environment, Parks and Sustainability chairman David McLachlan said the need for a new visitor information complex was identified in the 2015 master plan for the botanic gardens.

“The kiosk will be located near the gardens' border with QUT’s Main Drive, in an elevated, flood free position to take in the wonderful views of the garden,” he said.

“It will be a larger, modern and improved facility which also offers shaded areas with seating for visitors.

“Following completion of construction, Council will install redirection and wayfinding signage at the previous site to direct visitors to the new kiosk location."

The new kiosk will house 40 volunteers who provide free tours twice a day six days a week throughout the gardens. The volunteers currently meet tour groups at the Albert Street rotunda in the centre of the gardens.

Cr McLachlan said the council would install a new drinking fountain as part of the project, with Multiplex covering most of the cost of the project as part of their commitment to providing the city with community infrastructure.

The botanic gardens were established in 1828 to provide an 18-hectare sanctuary in the heart of the city for Brisbane's residents.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-2019.
