King tides are expected to inundate parts of south-east Queensland this week, with people urged to avoid parking their cars in areas prone to flooding.

The Brisbane City Council has warned that higher than normal high tides may be experienced in low-lying areas near the coast and riverside locations from Monday to Thursday.
The highest tide peak was expected to be 2.77 metres at 10.31am on Tuesday at Whyte Island, known as the Brisbane Bar, where the Bureau of Meteorology measures tides.
A tide peak of 2.72 metres was expected at 9.43am on Monday, 2.76 metres at 11.17am on Wednesday and 2.68 metres at 12.03pm on Thursday.
The council warned the king tides were expected to be similar to the high tides experienced on July 13, 2018.
"Minor localised flooding may be experienced in bayside, riverside and low-lying parts of nearby suburbs," the warning reads.
"Residents in areas prone to localised flooding due to high tides are advised to avoid parking their cars on the street during these times."
In January 2018, parts of Brisbane were inundated with water as an unusually high tide hit the city’s low-lying areas, including the suburbs of Windsor and Scarborough.
The Bureau of Meteorology had the high tide hitting 2.75 metres at that time.
Earlier this month, acting Main Roads Minister Mark Ryan warned less experienced boat owners may be caught out by the wider tidal margins, especially while launching and retrieving.
"Maritime Safety Queensland is warning people living close to the water may also be affected and should move tinnies, kayaks, garden furniture and other items away from the water's edge," he said.
"Keep a close watch over children playing in shallow water - tidal streams in these waters can be strong."
Mr Ryan said the highest tides in January could be about 20 centimetres higher than a typical spring tide.
"People who live near the water need to stay abreast of weather conditions and storm surges," he said.
King tides are caused by the gravitational influence of the sun and moon.
Ports further north will experience their highest predicted tides of the year from January 22 and February 20, depending on their location.
