Calls have been made for one of Brisbane’s most well known inner-city shopping streets to be redesigned with the local councillor concerned the precinct had been left "unloved".

Boundary Street at West End is filled with cafes, bars and retailers but Councillor Jonathan Sri (The Gabba ward) believes the strip needs a major upgrade.
“The precinct, in general, is feeling a little bit unloved at the moment,” Cr Sri said.
“We have seen a lot of massive changes in the area, huge new developments, including West Village, but no investment back into the public realm.”
Cr Sri said currently Boundary Street could not cope with current and projected volumes of pedestrians and cyclists, had bent and vandalised street signs, cracked pavement and broken bench seats.
The Boundary Street suburban centre project was undertaken 24 years ago and in 2014 Brisbane City Council spent $250,000 refreshing the footpath.
Cr Sri said it was important any upgrade to the street maintained its character and history.
“I am really cautious that some of the streetscape upgrades in different parts of the city have eroded the character of the neighbourhood,” he said.
“They [the council] have replaced unique furniture and unique artworks with stock-standard homogenized infrastructure and I don't want to see that happen to Boundary Street.”
Cr Sri has launched a petition calling the the council to allocate funding in the 2018-19 budget to upgrade the village precinct.
More than 200 people have signed the petition.
A council spokesman said the council would consider the petition for Boundary Street to be considered for a Village Precinct Project.
“Several different petitions are currently calling for support for sites across the city to be included in the program and funding is available for additional projects this financial year,” he said.
The petition will close on Friday.
