The Queensland Forensic Crash Unit was investigating the cause of the crash at Toolara Forest, with investigations showing the car was travelling south-west on Tin Can Bay Road when it left the road.
The man, from Rainbow Beach, died at the scene.
In an unrelated crash, a 41-year-old man died on the Bruce Highway near Deeragun, a suburb of Townsville, on Wednesday night.
An off-duty police officer found the man unconscious near a motorbike at 10.40pm. The officer started CPR but the man died at the scene.
The deaths bring Queensland's road toll in the first 200 days of 2018 to 136, three more than the same time last year.
