The dingo was euthanised on July 2, a Queensland Department of Environment and Science spokesperson said, after it bit a woman near Lake Wabby on June 30, then bit a child at Eurong on July 1.

It then showed aggressive behaviour toward a female backpacker on July 2, also at Eurong.

"Following the series of high-risk incidents, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, with the support of the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation, determined that the dingo presented an unacceptable risk, and the decision was made to capture and humanely euthanise the animal," the spokesperson said.

"The dingo responsible for the attacks was identified by its coloured and numbered ear tag and captured on 2 July 2018.

"While the euthanasia was unfortunate, it was necessary, and is not expected to have an impact on the population’s genetics as the dingo was part of a pack."

A West Australian mine worker was recently attacked and severely mauled by a pack of three dingos in the Pilbara.

QPS rangers have been monitoring a pack of dingos on K'gari/Fraser Island and warned visitors and residents of increased dingo activity.

Rangers increased their patrols in the Eurong–Poyungan Rocks area after the first attack.

Camping areas at Wongai, One Tree Rocks and Cornwells have been closed from June 12 to September 20 to reduce the risk of dingo and human interactions.

Visitors were advised to be aware and respectful of dingos on the island, and not feed dingos or leave food available.

Children and young teenagers should be kept within arms reach and visitors should walk in groups and camp within fenced areas.

Running can trigger "a negative dingo interaction", the department warned, and all rubbish and bait should be safely secured.
