A suburban intersection where a pedestrian was killed when two cars crashed in August last year will be considered for safety upgrades, following a petition by Annerley residents to Brisbane City Council.

A 68-year-old Annerley man was standing at the intersection of Venner Road and Frederick Street when two cars collided.
One car became airborne and flipped over, pinning the man underneath.
He was rushed to hospital under police escort in a critical condition and died nine days later.
Annerley residents since petitioned the council for safety upgrades to the intersection, which has no street lights.
There is one pedestrian island at the intersection on Lagonda Street opposite Frederick Street, and another 30 metres away on Venner Road.
More than 200 people signed the petition, which was considered by the council’s infrastructure committee on Tuesday.
Infrastructure committee chairman Amanda Cooper said Venner Road was considered a suburban road connecting to arterial roads and had a speed limit of 60km/h.
The petitioners were seeking a reduction of the speed limit to 40km/h.
The three-way intersection is close to the larger intersection of Venner and Ipswich roads, which the council is already investigating for major upgrades.
The council had already allocated funding for a corridor review for the Venner-Ipswich Road upgrades, and agreed the petitioner’s request for upgrades to the smaller intersection close by could be considered as part of that review.
Cr Cooper said the crash was “quite an unusual incident” with the pedestrian injured while he was standing on the side of the road.
The council’s draft response to petitioners said it was waiting for the outcome of the Queensland police investigation into the crash and would ensure police or coronial recommendations were implemented at the intersection.
The draft response to the petitioners was recommended for approval to the council.
