Those were the words of Deputy Premier Jackie Trad on Saturday morning as a strong crowd of pro-choice supporters gathered outside Parliament House with purple umbrellas, T-shirts and signs.

In May, more than two-thirds of Irish voters supported repealing the country’s Eighth Amendment, which in 1983 had enshrined in the constitution the right to life of the unborn equal to the right of the mother, effectively banning almost all abortions.

Ms Trad had organised the rally after Labor announced on Monday it would move to decriminalise abortion in Queensland and introduce 150-metre safe zones around clinics.

"We know that it's going to be a few months until this gets debated in Parliament," Ms Trad said.

"This means that those Queenslanders who quite rightly want to see abortion laws reformed really do need to maintain the momentum, the conversation and the persuasion.

"I'm very passionate about abortion law reform because, fundamentally, it is the last area of discrimination against women.

"To think that in 2018 women can't access an abortion unless they're mentally incapable of having a baby is ridiculous."

Hannah Whittle, 27, was one of the speakers at the rally. She had an abortion in May last year.

"I touched on two things from my experience," she said.

"I was concerned by how many times the nurse asked whether I wanted to go through with it (the abortion) at the clinic, but I understand that is due to legal restrictions.

"I also needed to state that I was mentally incapable of having a baby at the time, you shouldn't need to give a reason."

Ms Whittle said she was overwhelmed by the support on Saturday and was particularly happy to see a strong turnout from men.

"As a privileged white woman, I have access to (abortion) services, but I wanted the crowd to think about what the laws do to the most vulnerable in the community," she said.

"Particularly women fleeing domestic violence, those who can't afford it, women of colour and women in our rural and remote communities."

Katter party MPs have said they will vote against a bill to decriminalise abortion in Queensland and will lobby other parliamentarians to do the same.

Katter's Australian Party state leader Robbie Katter and colleagues Shane Knuth and Nick Dametto said human life is sacrosanct and they will oppose the Labor government's bill.

"We will be opposing Labor's attempt to weaken the laws and doing everything we can to lobby other MPs, both LNP and Labor, to be vocal in their opposition," Mr Katter has told News Corp this week.

Ms Trad appealed to the Katter MPs to talk to the women in their electorates.

"My ask of them is to talk to women in their communities," she said.

"They represent some of the most ... rural communities in Queensland and know that it is women in these communities that have less choice and less capacity to access termination services."

"The laws need to be changed for all women, but particularly for women living in rural and regional Queensland."
