Commuters travelled for free on Brisbane's buses and ferries on Monday owing to a widespread Go Card reader failure.

The card readers had not been working since early Monday morning and was not resolved for some commuters heading home in the late afternoon.
It was understood the issue was ongoing for buses and ferries but Go Card readers were working on trains.
It was unclear how much the system failure would cost in lost revenue, but when bus drivers offered fare-free days in 2017 during bus strikes Brisbane City Council estimated a cost of $515,000 a day.
A TransLink spokesman said a system issue had resulted in problems with Go Card readers on ferries and buses across south-east Queensland.
“TransLink is working with technology partner Cubic to fix the problem, including the rollback to an earlier version of the software,” he said.
“Unfortunately the issue is continuing and is likely to impact bus and ferry services during the afternoon peak commute.
“Resolving this issue is Cubic’s top priority and they have allocated a team of technicians, who are working to fix this issue as quickly as possible."
The spokesman said customers would be able to travel for free until the issue was resolved.
Trains and trams have not been affected by the outage.
