Gold Coast-based FSG announced it would go into voluntary administration on Friday in the face of mounting financial issues, with 900 employees unprepared for the announcement.

A statement issued by chief executive Vicki Batten on Friday said the organisation had had to make “large investment decisions to prepare for the NDIS” but “we cannot continue to deliver our high-quality support to our customers”.

Funded by both federal and state support, FSG had clients across south-east Queensland and northern NSW, with more than $60 million in government funding provided to the charity in 2017.

On Monday afternoon, Queensland Disability Services Minister Coralee O’Rourke confirmed CPL was entering into an independent partnership with FSG to provide “certainty” for clients.

“My other priority since news of the FSG’s financial issues came to light has been to ensure appropriate job opportunities are found for FSG’s hard working staff,” Ms O’Rourke said.

“That’s why I am welcoming the news today that CPL expects to offer employment to many of these FSG employees.”

FSG’s annual report acknowledged “difficult business decisions” made in 2017.

The charity has been running for nearly 39 years and estimated more than 4000 people accessed services each week.

Its 2017 annual report noted a skyrocketing financial outlay since 2013, from $50 million up to more than $70 million.

“The move to NDIS funding has obviously dramatically slowed Funding by State and Commonwealth sources,” the report noted.

In her statement on Friday, Ms Batten emphasised her support for the NDIS.

The Services Union has also filed a dispute with the Fair Work Commission over the "lack of consultation" from FSG over the voluntary administration announcement.

"This situation did not happen overnight, and there are really big questions needed to be asked of FSG management as to how they have allowed it to come to this," union executive president Jennifer Thomas said.

CPL issued a statement on Monday afternoon, with the organisation's chief executive Rhys Kennedy saying it was "important to remember that at the centre of this matter are people with disabilities".

“I would like to reassure FSG Australia customers – and the community – that our priority is ensuring that everyone will continue to receive their services and support by our amazing team here at CPL,” he said.

“From 1 July this year, CPL will support FSG customers who receive disability support services to continue their supports at CPL.

"This is approximately 1500 customers who live in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Northern NSW."
