Sydneysiders Matthew Low, Cindy and their two children were on holiday at the Gold Coast theme park on October 25 that year, when Cindy and one of their children stepped onto a raft at the Thunder River Rapids Ride.

A critical accident minutes later killed Ms Low and three others - Canberra resident Kate Goodchild, her brother Luke Dorsett and his partner Roozi Araghi.

Two children on board the raft survived.

Speaking to 7.30 on Thursday night, Mr Low told of how he attended the coronial inquest every day, with the first two weeks of hearings held in Southport in June this year.

Mr Low said he felt compelled to attend for his wife’s sake, and to “hear the truth”.

He told the ABC he was shocked by revelations at the inquest.

“The lack of information that seemed to be shared or known among the staff, in terms of why you should push a certain button or not push a certain button,” he said.

“There did seem to be a lack of information for staff on why that was occurring.

“It was really quite concerning that the staff members … had heard there was a recent incident and heard it through staff conversations but there had been nothing formal or from the company itself, or embedded into the training as to why you would do something at a particular ride.”

Dreamworld acting chief executive Nicole Noye said in a statement that the theme park had recently implemented a number of safety and emergency drills, including ride-specific drills.

In her statement, Ms Noye said Dreamworld was “delivering on its commitment” to provide global best-practice in ride safety.

Ms Noye said it would be inappropriate to comment on the matters in front of the inquest, but the theme park “reaffirms its commitment to implement the Coroner’s recommendations”.

“Dreamworld will be welcoming [Workplace Health and Safety Queensland] to the park next month for a week of detailed ride inspections and an audit of its safety management systems and procedures,” she said.

Mr Low said he had no complaints about the level of contact between himself and Dreamworld following the accident, and that park management had respected his wishes to be left alone.

He detailed the exhausting days after the incident, describing the “surreal state” he lived in for the days and weeks following his wife’s death.

“One of the things I found is just actually taking the time to sit and let the children talk to me,” he said.

“Especially when you’re used to being really busy and running around, you don’t realise how often there are lots of things that bring back memories of people that are gone, that hit really hard.”

The coronial inquest resumes in Southport in October.
