“Obviously when anyone is so brazen to assault a child in a public place there is concern for us. There is also the risk it may happen again,” Sunshine Coast child protection Officer in Charge Phil Hurst said.

Sunshine Coast police have already scoured CCTV footage to identify the man responsible for the attack, which happened on January 4.

They now need the public to come forward with what they know.

The girl had been at Tickle Park at Coolum Beach with family and friends when she wandered away from the group and into a nearby unisex toilet block and was sexually assaulted.

The girl returned to where her family and friends were and later told her parents about the incident.

Due to her young age police believe the incident may have occurred sometime between 4.30 and 5.30pm and the man may have had white or light coloured hair and was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

The child was assessed but did not require medical treatment.

Senior Sergeant Phil Hurst said markets were on that afternoon and a lot of people in the area at the time of the attack.

“These sort of offences are often solved with assistance from members of the public,” he said.

“Hopefully this will prompt someone’s memory in relation to who was in the park at the time.”

He said they had used a “number of strategies” to try and identify the man but needed the public’s help.

Police are appealing for anyone who noticed anything or anyone suspicious, or anything out of the ordinary in Tickle Park and the surrounding area that afternoon to contact them.

Police would also like to speak to any motorists who drove past Tickle Park between 4.30 and 5.30pm on Friday, January 4 and who may have dashcam vision.

The toilet block was located at the Coolum Surf Club end of Tickle Park.
