Senior Constable Reid stopped his car at about 6.05am as a koala sat in the middle of a road in Lockyer Waters.
Dashcam video released by police showed a car travelling ahead braking and then moving onto the other side of the road to avoid hitting the koala.
Senior Constable Reid turned on the lights on his police car, but the flashing police lights did not seem to deter the koala.
When approached by Senior Constable Reid, the koala scurried across the road and into nearby bushland.
