Several streets in the Moreton Bay suburb of Kallangur were in lockdown for more than four hours before police declared the area safe after a controlled detonation.

Police will allege officers found drugs during the raid just after midday and sections of Coppin Street West and Gardner Street West were closed until 4.30pm upon the discovery of the suspicious liquid.

"We have conducted a controlled explosion of the bottle in question," Inspector Steve Flori said.

"It was certainly more explosive than what we had anticipated. Having said that, it wasn’t a particularly dangerous explosion.

"We have scientists still working on identifying what was in that container."

A 45-year-old man was charged with a string of offences including supplying dangerous drugs, knowingly or recklessly importing Tier 1 goods (human growth hormone) without approval and possessing property suspect of having been used in the commission of a drug offence.

He was due to appear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Investigations were continuing.
