Kiran Hazard, 27, and a woman were spotted on foot in the Mackay suburb of Slade Point just before 3pm on Wednesday and were detained by both police and members of the community.

Police said both were arrested and Mr Hazard was assisting with inquiries in relation to a sergeant allegedly being hit by a Toyota LandCruiser while the officer was trying to arrest the occupants.

Police will allege two officers spotted two stolen vehicles, a Toyota LandCruiser and a Holden Commodore, on Riverside Drive about 11.30am.

When a police car pulled up in front of the Commodore, the female driver of the vehicle allegedly reversed back before driving and crashing into the side of the police car.

Police allege the two officers tried to stop the vehicles driving away before one of the officers, a 49-year-old male sergeant, had his foot run over by a LandCruiser with two men inside.

The injured officer and his partner arrested the female driver and male passenger of the Commodore. The LandCruiser fled the scene and the police officer was taken to Mackay Hospital.

Police allege the passenger of the LandCruiser was Levi Brown, a 25-year-old who escaped a prison in Rockhampton on June 3, along with another man who was arrested days later in North Mackay.

Police found Brown hours later and arrested him. A 35-year-old Bakers Creek woman and 26-year-old Andergrove man were also arrested and charged over the alleged incident.
