A 38-year-old man has been charged following investigations into the suspicious death of a woman in far north Queensland.

Police were called to a Ndruili Street residence at Mapoon, about 870 kilometres north of Cairns, about 11pm on Friday where they found a 22-year-old woman dead at the scene.

The Mapoon man, who was known to the woman, was arrested at the address and was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is due to appear in Weipa Magistrates Court on October 15.
Investigations are continuing.
