Man charged over stabbing death in Queensland's north

A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder following the stabbing death of another man at a Townsville unit.

Police announced on Sunday the charged man will face the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.

A 68-year-old man died from a suspected stab wound to the chest after police arrived at the Nathan Street unit complex on Friday night following reports of a disturbance.

Police say the victim, who had a disability, knew the man and it appeared the incident was fuelled by alcohol.

"Unfortunately when alcohol is involved things can get out of hand, and it would appear that's the case in these circumstances," Detective Inspector Phil Watts told reporters at Townsville Police Station on Saturday.

A forensic examination of the crime scene has already uncovered a knife, the alleged weapon used.
