A man has spent two hours clinging to his capsized kayak in waters off Fraser Island before being plucked from the ocean by a rescue helicopter.

The man and his stricken vessel drifted about a kilometre from shore when rescuers arrived and he alerted emergency services to his plight with a mobile phone he was carrying in a waterproof case.
The 29-year-old man made the triple-zero call about 5pm on Wednesday after his kayak suddenly filled with water and capsized off the central Queensland coast.
The Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter responded and winched him from the water. Neither the water police or Volunteer Marine Rescue were required.
The kayaker was wearing a life jacket and was taken to Fraser Island for assessment by paramedics.
While his kayak was lost, he was back at his Fraser Island campsite soon after the rescue.
