Police said a Ford Falcon was being driven west on Yawalpah Road in Pimpama when it left the road about 11pm and crashed into an embankment near the intersection with Gawthern Drive.

The driver, a Gold Coast man in his 20s, was the sole occupant of the sedan and died at the scene.

The crash also resulted in almost 3000 Energex customers in Pimpama and Coomera losing power for 40 minutes, according to an Energex spokesman.

The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating and investigators were appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who has relevant dashcam footage to contact police.
