A man will face a sexual assault charge in court next month after a woman filed a complaint with police on Friday.

The woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at Main Beach on the Gold Coast on Wednesday, reportedly while in the company of her young son.
Sergeant John Goobanko told 7 News a 78-year-old man handed himself into Surfers Paradise police station and provided an account of what happened.
The accused told Nine News as he left the police station that he did not believe he had done anything wrong, expressed remorse and apologised to the woman.
The Pacific Pines man was issued with a Notice to Appear in Southport Magistrates Court on July 2.
