A body-boarder died after he was pulled unconscious from the water by lifeguards at Dolphin Point in Noosa Heads on Monday morning, who battled treacherous surf conditions to rescue him.

Lindsay Connolly, 30, from Peregian Beach, was brought ashore by lifeguards around 7.45am but did not regain consciousness.
Mr Connolly was said to be bodyboarding outside the flags in a notorious black spot and was far from the nearest patrolled area, making it difficult for lifeguards and paramedics to reach him.
A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesman said lifeguards made desperate attempts to revive the man using CPR and found out later that he was unable to be revived.
Meanwhile, Queensland's south-east has copped an overnight drenching courtesy of an east coast low that is set to bring more rain for the first part of the week.
The most falls were recorded at Noosa Heads, with 480 millimetres of rain during the past seven days. Upper Springbrook, on the state border inland from the Gold Coast, received 167 millimetres since 9am on Sunday.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Blazak said rivers in the region were starting to rise but there were no reports of flooding.
"There were pretty heavy showers across most suburbs overnight, with 25-50 millimetre falls."
"This was thanks to a trough that developed off the coast on Friday and turned into an east coast low and provided us with extra rainfall last night," he said.
In the 24 hours between 9am Saturday and 9am Sunday, Upper Springbrook recorded 70 millimetres, Caboolture in the Moreton Bay region saw 68 millimetres and Brisbane City received 15 millimetres.
Brisbane copped 46 millimetres from 9am on Sunday to 6.30am on Monday. In the same period, Noosa Heads recorded 113 millimetres and O'Reilly in the Scenic Rim received 111 millimetres.
Mr Blazak said generally during the past seven days, suburbs north of Brisbane recorded 50-100 millimetres, the southside received 25-50 millimetres and the Sunshine Coast saw 70-100 millimetres.
"Once you get to Caboolture way and further north, you see totals well over 100 millimetres with widespread falls of 200 millimetres and some reaching the 300 or 400-millimetre mark," he said.
Wave heights at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast reached 8.5 metres overnight, a height not seen since August 2007, and Caloundra exceeded 7 metres, the second-highest waves ever recorded there.
Looking ahead, the east coast low was expected to move north and weaken off the coast on Tuesday.
"We should see showers continue all through today," Mr Blazak said.
"Tomorrow there should still be showers around, but the decent totals will be closer to the coast.
"On Wednesday, the east coast low is supposed to move away, but there is still some uncertainty around its position by midweek and that will dictate how much shower activity we will see."
The Brisbane forecast was for the wet weather to ease into possible showers and partly cloudy conditions from Wednesday onwards.
A severe weather warning was in place for dangerous surf conditions on exposed beaches south of Cape Moreton for Monday and Tuesday.
Gale-force south-easterly winds were expected, according to the weather bureau, with the Gold Coast, Coolangatta and eastern side of Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island to be affected.
