At a mention for Mr Pisasale's case on July 9, the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed fresh charges were expected after the agency received "a significant amount" of new material including witness statements.

The court was attending to Mr Pisasale's charges of corruption, fraud, perjury, attempting to pervert the course of justice, misconduct in office and possession of restricted drugs.

Prosecutors successfully sought an adjournment until September to assess the new material before pressing new charges, in the hope all charges would be prepared by that date.

Additional charges were already indicated by the prosecutors in April.

Mr Pisasale's case was adjourned until September 7.

Former Ipswich City Council chief executive Carl Wulff and his wife Sharon Oxenbridge also had their charges of two counts each of official corruption mentioned in court on Monday.

Their matter has been adjourned to July 30.

Mr Wulff faces a further allegation of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
