Police detected the man driving a 4WD at 76km/h in the 40km/h school zone on Gregory Terrace at Spring Hill about 2pm Thursday.
When they directed the man to pull his car over, police said the driver put his car into reverse and collided with the car behind him.
No-one was injured in the collision, but both cars were damaged.
It is alleged the man returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.162.
The Newport man was charged with driving under the influence and issued an infringement notice for speeding and reversing when not safe.
Road Policing Command Superintendent Dave Johnson said dangerous driving behaviour placed the lives of Queenslanders at risk and was 100 per cent unacceptable.
“Police remain committed to finding these drivers and taking them off the road,” he said.
Police said the man was not associated with the nearby schools and would allege he had travelled from Eatons Hill before he was stopped.
