Other charges, including failure to report bleeding horses to stewards and race-day treatment breaches in contravention of the rules of racing issued by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission on Friday.

It was believed breaches were made between January 2016 and April 2017.

This is additional to the more than 20 alleged rule breaches stewards issued to Mr Currie on July 4 and four alleged illegal substance breaches issued on November 28 and December 14 in 2018.

Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said the recent allegations stemmed from items seized as part of the ongoing Currie Racing case, which was launched on April 7 last year.

“The very serious nature of the animal welfare allegations that have surfaced as a result of this
investigation have left us with no choice but to act now in the interests of the Queensland racing
industry,” he said.

“Mr Currie has been called to a Steward’s Inquiry on Monday 18 February at 10am to show cause
why he should not be suspended."

Consideration was given to scratching horses trained by Mr Currie to run at Doomben and Toowoomba on Saturday, but it was deemed to allow them to run after the impact on owners, connections and jockeys were considered.

None of the horses nominated to race were subject to the breaches.

Mr Barnett said Mr Currie continued to train horses in Queensland on a QCAT stay of proceedings.

“The Currie Racing investigation has not concluded and further alleged breaches of the rules of
racing are likely,” Mr Barnett said.

Stewards would also allege that  Mr Currie made dishonest statements in not disclosing to potential purchasers that Rock Spark bled at Gatton on April 6, 2017.

Mr Currie allegedly caused the administration of boost paste to race horse Honey Toast on the day it raced in the Sunshine Coast Cup on January 31, 2016, as well as multiple cases of using shockwave therapy before races and a jigger.
