Nikita Jo Walker, 30, died when her twin-engine plane crashed into the side of a mountain near Federation Peak about 8.30am on Saturday.

The Par Avion pilot was making a routine flight from Cambridge to Melaleuca, but about 40 minutes after take-off, the aircraft got into trouble over the Arthur Ranges and came down.

Ms Walker lived in the Hobart suburb of Tranmere, but was from Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and moved to Tasmania several years ago to train as a pilot.

Tasmanian Police confirmed Ms Walker was the pilot who had been killed in the crash and sent their condolences to her family and friends on Monday.

Inspector Dave Wiss said the body recovery and forensic examination of the scene had been hampered by the dangerous terrain, but both objectives were achieved on Sunday.

The plane's emergency location transmitter was also recovered from the wreckage on Sunday and would be examined in Hobart.

Rosemary Sargison, who Ms Walker flew around Tasmania in January, paid tribute to the pilot on Facebook.

"So sad ... we were blessed to have her company for the whole day as she also drove the boat we were in on Bathurst Harbour," she wrote.

"Sincere condolences to her family on the loss of this gorgeous young woman who was so beautiful on the inside as well as on the outside."

Par Avion managing director Shannon Wells said everyone at the company was in shock.

Mr Wells said Ms Walker had been with the company for three years and was well versed in flying in Tasmanian conditions.

He said the pilot was "very experienced and well qualified".

"We are mourning the loss of a great member of our team who was not only a work colleague but a much-loved friend to everyone at the airline," Mr Wells said.

Ms Walker's family have flown to Hobart since the crash.

The investigation into the cause of the crash was being led by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and Tasmania Police, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
