Police said the Ayr man was travelling on McDowell Road in the early hours of Saturday morning when his quad bike struck a drain at Home Hill, about 100 kilometres from Townsville.
He was found dead at the scene.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
The crash is the second fatal incident involving a quad bike reported in a fortnight across Queensland.
It follows the death on October 19 of a 31-year-old rider who was thrown from his quad bike before being hit by vehicle at Stonehenge in Central Queensland.
