Emergency services were called to Ipswich Road in Annerley, on Brisbane's southside, about 9.50pm on Wednesday after the 17-year-old was hit by a passing car.

He died at the scene and the 52-year-old male driver of the car was not seriously injured.

Inspector Sean Cryer said it was "a stupid way to die" and pleaded for common sense around roads.

"Sitting on the concrete barrier between the inbound and outbound lanes on Ipswich Road here," he told Nine News.

"One of the other witnesses said they were throwing shoes at each other.

"One [of the teenagers] has gone to run quickly across the road, the other one was seen ducking in and out of traffic, back onto the centre traffic island.

"Then, for some unknown reason, he has run across the road and been hit by a passing vehicle."

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man also died after being found in the wreckage of his car near Goondiwindi, on the NSW border.

The car was found off the Barwon Highway about 4.30pm on Wednesday and police believe it had veered off the road, smashed through a fence and crashed into a creek bed.

The man was the driver and sole occupant and police do not believe another vehicle was involved.

The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating both incidents.
