A teenager was airlifted to hospital after he was caught in a rip on the Sunshine Coast with reports he almost drowned while on a camping trip to celebrate schoolies.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter landed on North Shore Beach on Saturday afternoon to airlift a teenage boy to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue spokesperson said the boy was celebrating the end of the school year with friends when the incident occurred, receiving a report he almost drowned.
"The teen swallowed a large amount of water, but made it back to shore by himself, before raising the alarm," they said.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter landed on the beach just after 12.30pm where the aeromedical crew was met by the Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics.
QAS treated the boy at the scene before he was airlifted.
