The number of supermarkets in an inner-Brisbane suburb is about to double, with two new stores to open by 2020.

West End, about two kilometres from Brisbane CBD, has grown by almost 3800 people and more than 1900 dwellings between 2001 to 2016, and it seems retail giant Woolworths is going to cash in on this growth.
In July 2017 it was revealed a full-line Woolworths supermarket would open at the $800 million West Village site in 2020.
Less than 12 months later and Woolworths has been named as an anchor tenant at a second multi-million development in the suburb.
On Thursday, it was announced that Woolworths would open as the anchor tenant for the $175 million Pradella development Montague Markets and Residences in 2020.
The West Village Woolworths will cover 4000 square metres and about 150 metres from the existing 3000-square-metre Coles supermarket, which opened in October 2000.
The 3400-square-metre Woolworths at the Pradella development will be about 450 metres down the road from a 1500-square-metre Aldi West End that opened in July 2014.
The two new West End Woolworths will be about 1.7 kilometres apart.
A Woolworths spokeswoman said the company considered a variety of elements before deciding to bring a new supermarket to a new location, including the area’s population growth and community support.
“As West End continues to undergo significant population growth as well as an increasing working population, we are delighted to be able to provide customers with increased choice, value and range in conveniently located supermarkets,” a Woolworths spokeswoman said.
The Woolworths at Montague Markets will have 292 underground car parks bays while customers to the West Village store will be able to access 450 car parks.
Pradella director Kim Pradella said the Montague Markets, which will be part of a larger master-planned community, will provide convenient shopping, dining and leisure opportunities for the growing riverfront region of West End.
“It will also introduce the region’s laneway culture to this precinct by extending Tondara Lane for community pop-up spaces and a 200sqm public art piece that will further showcase the personality of West End," he said.
Demolition of the former distance education school that sits on the site of Pradella's master-planned development will likely be demolished in 2018 with construction to start after.
