The crash site was discovered the following morning by someone walking past the area at Tanah Merah, near Loganholme.

Despite emergency services receiving a call about the truck crash at 10.40am on Wednesday, police confirmed the incident happened on Tuesday night.

The 57-year-old man was driving a prime-mover with a loaded trailer and traveling from Coffs Harbour to Brisbane during his regular work route.

Police said the truck, believed to be carrying produce, was heading west on the motorway at Tanah Merah at 11.30pm before it crashed over the Slacks Creek Bridge onto the surface underneath.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services sent two crews to the scene to help remove a person from the truck. They left the scene about 1pm.

The eastbound lanes of motorway were closed, with a diversion in place at University Drive onto Loganlea Road, and westbound lanes of the motorway were down to one lane for several hours.

Police said the lanes were reopened before peak hour on Wednesday afternoon before 4pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.

Logan District duty officer and acting Senior Sergeant Ben Reeve said investigations were continuing into how the crash happened.

“We’re unable to determine a cause but Forensic Crash Unit is currently investigating possible cause for that crash,” he said.

“It seems the truck has gone over the concrete barrier and has come to rest down in the culvert.”

Acting Senior Sergeant Ben Reeve said he was not surprised the truck had gone unnoticed by motorists travelling 100 kilometres an hour on the motorway.

“Where the truck has become stationary, it would most certainly be out of vision for the local motorists and it was identified by the person who contacted police this morning,” he said.

“They identified it by walking through.”

Acting Senior Sergeant Reeve said police were on the scene on Wednesday morning and were liaising with Transport and Main Roads to receive any CCTV footage of the highway.

Queensland Trucking Association chief executive officer Gary Mahon said the road transporting community was heartbroken over the "terribly unfortunate incident".

"It's terrible for this to have happened but also that it took too long to find him," he said.

"The saddest part of all is that it is suggested the truck hadn't been discovered for possibly more than 10 hours."

Mr Mahon said he passed on his condolences to the man's family and QTA would support the company owners of Lindsay during this difficult time.

"It is known as a highly regarded company with exceptional gear and it is unfortunate and very distressing to hear this incident has happened.

"Our biggest concern is the impact on not only the fleet owners but the family who are grieving a loss," he said.

Mr Mahon said he had been closely speaking with a Lindsay representative.

"It is my understanding this driver had been with the company for quite some time, doing the regular shuttle from Coffs Harbour to Brisbane and he was very familiar with the route," he said.

"I've also been told the company has never had an issue with the driver and there were no signs of anything being wrong and this could only be a tragic accident."

Mr Mahon said it was too soon to tell how QTA should react to the incident until police would find the cause of the crash.

"We aren't going to know until investigations are complete and I urge people not to speculate in fairness of the driver and his family," he said.

"There could have been a number of factors involved in the crash, there may be infrastructure design and more to think of but we don't know yet.

"We'll have to see what we learn from the incident but Lindsay fleets are well equipped with modern technology and I'm sure the technology on the truck would help police determine what happened."

Acting Senior Sergeant Reeve urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash or might have any information to come forward and contact police.
