The Traeger MP, who is the state leader for Katter's Australia Party, was not in the office at the time the rocks were allegedly flung, about 10pm Thursday.

Mr Katter said crime had been "running rampant" in the north and the state government had been ignoring it.

"I will be taking this straight to the Minister - no more reports, no more sport programs - we need real action on reducing crime in our communities," he said.

"The police have done a good job in making an arrest on this but it's time we really got to the heart of the problems of crime and youth crime in the north."

Mr Katter's electorate officer Kylie Rixon said staff had spent the morning cleaning glass out of their keyboards.

"The rocks have come through with such force they smashed through the glass, the laminate then travelled about four metres and put holes through the plaster," she said.

"It has also hit the safety glass and flung glass five metres back into the office. It is pretty awful.

"[The office] is substantially damaged, early estimates show we are looking at $25,000 worth of damage."

Ms Rixon said they did not believe it was a targeted attack as at least two other businesses had been vandalised, including a camping store next door to the police station.

Mr Katter's wife posted photos of the damage on Facebook on Friday morning.

"There’s someone out there with an outstanding hidden talent. Softball Australia we need to talk business," she joked.

A police spokesman said a 28-year-old man from the Mount Isa suburb of Townview had been charged with three counts of wilful damage and obstructing police.

He was set to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on April 8.
