The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service warned crews may not be able to protect every property as fires burnt  forced the closure of the Brisbane Valley Highway, north-west of Brisbane.

One bushfire continued to burn in the area, about 100 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, on Thursday night.

As conditions worsened, an updated QFES warning at 8pm told residents to evacuate before it was too late.

"A large and fast-moving fire is travelling in a north-easterly direction from an area near the Brisbane Valley Highway and Angledale Lane towards the Somerset Dam region," QFES said.

"It is expected to impact the areas of Cressbrook, Lower Cressbrook, Mount Beppo, Fulham Vale and Caboonbah.

"The Brisbane Valley Highway has been closed between Esk and Toogoolawah. Residents are able to leave the area via the highway north of Toogoolawah.

"Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property ... Power, water, and mobile phone service may be lost."

Meanwhile, residents in and around Woolooga and Sexton, about 45 kilometres north-west of Gympie, were being warned to be ready to leave their homes.

An updated QFES warning at 7.40pm said conditions could worsen.

"A fast-moving and unpredictable fire is travelling in a north-easterly direction from west of Bauple Woolooga Road at Woolooga towards Miva, Theebine, Scotchy Pocket and Gunalda," QFES said.

"The fire is currently impacting Bauple Woolooga Road, Brooyar Road, Ormes Road, Miva Road, Sexton Road and Lower Wide Bay Road in the Woolooga/Sexton area. The fire is likely to impact Miva, Theebine, Scotchy Pocket and Gunalda.

"Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door.

"Crews will be conducting extensive backburning operations throughout the night and request the public avoid the area where possible to ensure their own safety and the safety of crews."

Kara Christian, who lives in the affected area near Gympie, posted to Facebook on Thursday: "We had to evacuate yesterday. Still can’t go home to (sic) much smoke."

Those affected have been encouraged to listen to their local radio station, monitor the Rural Fire Service website, finalise their bushfire survival plan and protect any animals on their property.

Residents should close any windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure and fill containers with drinking and firefighting water.

Residents were urged to immediately call 000 if they believed their property was under threat.
