South-east Queensland's Moreton Bay hosts two spectacular cultural events at Wynnum and North Stradbroke Island over the next two weekends as part of the 2018 Quandamooka Festival.

Visitors can also take the opportunity to learn an indigenous language.
Quandamooka country covers Moreton Bay, with Minjerribah the indigenous name for North Stradbroke Island, which has been passed by humpback whales for centuries as the animals head to warmer waters to give birth to their calves during winter.
Yura Yalingbila means “Welcome the whales”, and this activity has been traditionally celebrated by the Quandamooka people.
Now it forms the highlight, on July 28, of next weekend’s part of the two-weekend Quandamooka Festival.

The Annual Kunjiel Family Fun Day with 30 food and drink stalls, craft markets, weaving and a fashion parade from 10am to 4pm.
Bundarra Fashion Parade and contemporary music from Georgia Corowa, Chris Tamwoy and Tania Rose.

Saturday, July 28 from 11am to 3pm
Location: Point Lookout (Mooloomba), North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).
Visitors can also enjoy whale-watching cultural tours, traditional dance, arts, weaving, workshops, kids’ activities, bush influenced and contemporary Quandamooka cuisine by chef Kieron Anderson.
Music comes from young emerging artists Chris Tamwoy, Adrian Eagle, Sachem Parkin-Owens and Georgia Corowa.
Artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, designer of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Medals and the large Migaloo whale featured in the Games’ Opening Ceremony, will discuss her art and influences as a Quandamooka resident.
Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) CEO Cameron Costello said thousands of people now enjoy the annual Kunjiel Family Fun Day.
“It is a great day out for the family and brings the Wynnum area to life in a unique and memorable way each year,” he said.
“With beautiful Moreton Bay and its majestic sand islands for background, it is also a great way to see Quandamooka Country and get away from the hassles of the city for the day.”

Dine under Straddies’ Stars, or “Merriken Merriken” on North Stradbroke Island.
Timed to accommodate the Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival, guests will be seated at 7.45pm to enjoy a native-taste inspired menu brought to you by Traditional Owner Executive Chef, Kieron Anderson.
The wines are provided by Queensland’s Sirromet Wines.
