A learner driver in a car loaded with four passengers has been caught speeding at 160km/h in Melbourne's west, police say.
Officers impounded the 20-year-old Sunshine North man's car after catching him in Hoppers Crossing on Tuesday night.
He grabbed their attention after he sped off from the intersection of Derrimut and Heath roads about 10.15pm.
Police clocked his speed at 150km/h in a 70km/h zone. The car continued to pull away, with officers estimating his speed hit 160km/h.
Officers stopped the vehicle and found the man only held a learners permit. His passengers were all aged 17 to 19.
A police spokeswoman said the driver was set to be charged on summons with dangerous speeding and failure to adhere to the conditions of his learners permit, among other traffic offences.
His car has been impounded for 30 days.
