Mr Shaw told reporters that they were not speaking for taxpayers when he was questioned today about the misuse of his parliamentary car to help run his hardware business.

"You guys must be from Frankston ... I don't think you are speaking for taxpayers," he said. "Oh gee, that's pretty old news, isn't it?"

When asked if he was still a good local member he responded "you bet".

Mr Shaw will spend this afternoon sitting on a parliamentary committee into Victoria's economic development.

He abruptly pulled out of the committee's last hearing on October 31, forfeiting his daily payment of $75.

The misuse of his parliamentary car was referred to the privileges committee just over two weeks ago.

The referral followed a chaotic day in Parliament in which Mr Shaw was accused of calling Labor MPs "wankers" and making an obscene gesture with his hand.

Mr Shaw has denied making the gesture, and said he pointed at the opposition and said "whackers".
