Richmond grassfires disrupt city commute

Trains between East Richmond and Burnley were disrupted by a series of grassfires on Thursday afternoon, resulting in long delays for Glen Waverley, Lilydale and Belgrave passengers.

The fire started just before 2pm. It was strong enough to alert traders on nearby Swan Street, with the Union Dining restaurant tweeting about its progress.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade put out the fire, but not before trains on the affected lines had been delayed by 30 minutes. The MFB is investigating whether the fires are suspicious.

All other Metro trains are running to schedule while V/Line services past Geelong are facing major disruption.

V/Line are reporting that due to an incident at South Geelong, trains to Marshall are terminating at Geelong, while trains to Warrnambool will be replaced by buses.
