Here's what's making the news across the capital.

Temperatures are set to hit 40 degrees three days in a row this week, part of a burst of hot summer weather that has seen dam levels in the ACT drop.

But even though the city uses more water in hot weather, Icon Water says it would take conditions worse than the "millennium drought" for the water provider to consider introducing water restrictions.

It's always the case in January that op shops are inundated with donations, particularly clothing, as New Year's resolutions see people clear out their closets and attempt to get organised.

But this year has been the biggest yet after Canberrans cottoned on to the viral Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, which sees her clients rid themselves of any possession that doesn't "spark joy".

Bella Insch and Mhera Nelson have a lot in common - like their husbands in a previous life, both men called Brian. The pair met on their first date in June 2017.

“It was the most romantic night,” Ms Insch said, although she told The Canberra Times that Ms Nelson had been almost an hour late for their date at an inner-city bar, and she almost left. But the pair went on to have dinner, see a show and share a late night dessert, all on the first night. They’ve been together ever since.

The Canberra couple have now won a fancy, $25,000 wedding at the National Gallery of Australia.
