Political consensus was already in feeble health. Now it is now dead

The uncomfortably close vote in the Liberal Party room yesterday almost certainly means that while Malcolm Turnbull has survived the day, his prime ministership is effectively doomed, and along with it probably the government itself, already falling well behind Labor in the polls.
