Something is missing in modern politics

Aretha Franklin was a much-loved figure who used her celebrity in the cause of justice. When she passed, people lined the streets to pay respects. In his eulogy, the Reverend Jesse Jackson lamented that there were "long lines to celebrate death and short lines for voting". At the event that marked her passing, there was strong sense of political purpose. "We lost Michigan by 11,000 votes. One-hundred-thousand in Detroit are unregistered. Long lines at the deaths of icons, short lines for voting. Something is missing."
